The Polynesian Cultural Center

We went to the Polynesian Cultural center and toured the center with our tour guide, cousin Tab, a guy from one of the islands cant remember which one, who was a returned missionary and is attending BYU Hawaii. He works at the PCC as a tour guide and was funny and informative. We were able to tour the center, which consists of different "islands" you can learn about that makes up the Polynesian culture. Like Tonga, Samoa, New Zealand, Fiji and others I cant remember. You learn about that islands culture and way of life. They sing, dance, and teach you about that specific island. Samoa was my favorite. We were able to see how to husk a coconut, make coconut milk and watch a guy climb a coconut tree. It was really neat. After out tour, we attended a luau and had some poi! Which Caleb had waited to eat fr so long. e was quite disappointed but was happy he finally got some, its not very good! We ate sushi, pulled pork( from the pig they roasted in the ground), fruit, salad, tarot rolls, purple yams and some yummy pina colada out of a real pineapple. Then we went to the night performance that was my favorite part. It was awesome. The dancing, fire eating, hip shaking was very cool. A must if one gos to Hawaii!

Pinewood Derby

Last night the scouts in our ward at their Blue & Gold banquet/Pinewood Derby. Caleb had a big night, he earned his wolf badge and also took third place in the Pinewood derby! He was just thrilled. He did the majority of his car and worked hard at making it a good racer. Mitch and Aubrie have been sick with the flu and so Mitch missed it and as so bummed that he did. Cole Verbeck just recently joined our den/pack they all came and Cole raced his car too and it was such a pretty car. All in all it was a fun night. I am so proud of Caleb earning his wolf, he and I have had such a great time working on scouts together and I have enjoyed my calling in scouts. Way to go Cal!

Finally...warm weather

We had a few really wonderful days last week so we took advantage of it and played outside and at the park on saturday with some friends of ours, the Verbecks. Cole and Calen have played baseball together, this will be the fourth year they have played on the same team. Brynley loves her swing at home and also loves the dirt. We couldnt get her away from eating it! I guess all babies need to try it.

Caleb's Poem

Caleb wrote this poem in class last week and I thought it was wonderful. So I am sharing it with everyone. He definately has his daddy's writing talent. He seems so mature for his age. He has such an old spirit in a little boy's body! The picture was with the poem, which went perfectly with it, since he was wearing a baseball shirt!

I AM CALEB
I WONDER ABOUT GOING TO HAWAII
I HEAR MY FRIEND'S TALKING
I SEE GOD'S NATURE
I WANT TO BE A BASEBALL PLAYER.
I AM CALEB

I PRETEND TO BE A SUPERHERO.
I FEEL EVERYTHING.
I TOUCH THE GRASS.
I WORRY ABOUT DYING.
I CRY WHEN SOMEONE DIES.
I AM CALEB.

I UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING IN SCHOOL.
I ALK ALOT ABOUT BASEBALL.
I DREAM ABOUT BEING RICH.
I TRY NOT TO BE MEAN TO MY LITTLE SISTERS.
I HOPE TO BE A BETTER SON AND OLDER BROTHER.
I AM A BASEBALL PLAYER AND AN AMERICAN.

Shredding it up

Mitch took Caleb snowboarding yesterday at Hesperus. Thye both enjoyed the day together and had a great time! Caleb even told Mitch that it was the best day ever. Well, that was yesterday and this morning when Caleb woke up he was very sore, not to mention the bad sunburn on his face! Mitch had forgotten to put sunscreen on his face and forgot his goggles on top of that. So now his eyes are red and he just feels bad. Poor cal. Hopefully the memory of yesterday will keep his love of snowboarding alive!
