Funny Face

I couldn't help but take a picture- Carly got this little puff stuck on her face!

Most often when I am in the kitchen this is what you will find Carly doing...pulling out all the tupperware containers and getting her slobber all over them.

Class Act...

Just wanted to capture that I actually succeeded in getting Caleb to get a haircut! Hallelujah!

Also we went to his Parent Teacher Conferences last friday and heard nothing but exceptionally great things about him. All of his teachers think he is such a good kid and his science teacher raved about how intelligent he is. In her class she asks the same question every year to her students and no one ever comes up with the right, logical answer. She even teaches at the college and no adults have ever gotten it either...Well guess who got it?? Yep our brain child. She said she was ecstatic that Caleb gave her the answer she has always wanted from a student. She said right away she knew he was someone special. Nice huh. He struggled the first few weeks in his gifted classes. He came from a gifted teacher in 5th grade that made it super fun to do academics. It took him a few weeks and a talking to from his mama for him to understand that middle school isnt all fun and games, its school and you are there to learn. The gifted classes are just accelerated academic classes that are taylored for smarter kids, its work and not all play. So that and getting him more organized in his locker and classes was a challenge. He is much more adapted now and doing fantastic. I am really proud of him.

5 Grain Cookies...

I just made a "healthy" cookie! These bad boys have half the fat and sugar than a traditional chocolate chip cookie. I found the recipe on the back of Bob's Red Mill 5Grain oats package. I tweeked it up a bit like using honey in place of half the brown sugar and adding white chocolate chips to it. A cookie just isnt a cookie unless it has some kind of chocolate right but I only used half the bag of chips so thats something right? :) Here is my version...
1 1/2 cup Bob's Red Mill 5 Grain Rolled Cereal
1 cup wheat flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
Add all these ingrediants in a bowl, mix and set aside.
Now take 1 stick of butter, 1/2 cup brown sugar, and 1/2 cup honey and cream in a mixer on low speed. Add 1/2 tsp. vanilla, 1/2 water and 2 eggs. Mix well then add the flour mixture slowly. Next add 1/2 cup dried cranberries, 1/2 cup coconut, and 1/2 cup pecan pieces and chocolate chips.
Bake 375 for 10-12 minutes. Enjoy!

Picky Vicky...

Me: "Bryn what would you like for dinner-Pizza, Spaghetti or chicken with rice?"
Bryn: "I don't like dinner, I only like snacks!"
Me: "Okay would you like pizza, spaghetti or chicken with rice for a snack?"
Bryn: "Pizza! No wait pizza is not a snack, I want cookies!"

Where did I go wrong?!!! She has turned into such a picky eater it's driving me and Mitch crazy! On the other hand she is extremely adorable!

Thirty...

My love turns thirty today. Time. Where does it go? Seems not very long ago that we were just a couple of kids madly in love. Still are actually.
Today I want to celebrate Mitch. The cool guy I get to call my husband, my best friend, my partner. Things I admire and love about him...
Mitch is just the most genuine person I have ever met. He doesn't sugar coat it for you and will be honest with you, even if you dont want to hear it.
He has a sincere heart and can be so very thoughtful.
If I had to choose one thing that I love the most it would be...he makes me laugh. Everyday. Even if we have gotten in an argument, he somehow makes me smile.
He makes our kids laugh. Which I think is such a very important ingrediant in raising healthy, happy kids.
He reads to the girls and massages Caleb's feet and mine every night that he is home.
He is not flaky. He follows through with the committments he makes.
Loves to stay active and play sports.
Loves books. He will finish his own novel sometime in his life.
Has patience.
He is sensitive. Really he is.
Loves to date me.
When we walk the kids to school he puts his hand around my waist and I think its the best touch to me.
Rarely speaks harsh words about anyone. But when he does will say what he feels.
Takes time off to go to everything that the kids are involved in.
Always has interesting facts and stories he hears from guys at work.
Knows everything there is to know about football and baseball.
Offers his service to those in need at church or a bum in the parking lot.
Always give money to the bum in the parking lot.
Never tells me I cant do anything I feel inspired to do.
Supports my decisions.
Supports the kids in everything they do.
Loves to have fun!
Loves to watch Willow, Princess Bride, Goonies, Legend...EVERY SINGLE movie night these are the ones he ALWAYS wants to watch. And we never do because we have watched them so many times before!
Always drapes him arm around me when we are going to sleep:)
Tells me I am beautiful everyday.
Tells our girls they are beautiful everyday.
Grateful for his testimony in Jesus Christ and the gospel.
Grateful for how hard he works for us.
He is just the coolest.
I love his smell.
I love his kisses.
I love his smile...

Adventures in babysitting...

Last night Mitch and I were wanting to go have dinner-alone. I called all the usual babysitters and no one could help us out. Caleb stepped in and begged us to trust him with the girls for a little while. So we let him. Even Carly. We went and just had dinner and looked around TJ Maxx for awhile. When we came home this is what we found...

All three girls were asleep!
Caleb you are so awesome! I think we have found ourselves a great sitter:)

"Special"...

It wasn't even 8am yet and I was dealing with this...

She is "special". Mitch says this to her when she has done something completely crazy. Like this...

I opened her drawer to get her some socks this morning and in a days time she was able to collect and hoard all of this! I am sure Caleb will be quite upset to see his flip camera in this mess. Special is as special does:)

Quinny...

As I write this tonight I couldnt help but think of how happy and excited I was the day I found out I was going to have a baby girl. And the day she was born, was even more surreal because I really, secretly wanted a girl more than anything at the time. I am truly blessed to have Aubrie. She has been everything I could have asked for in a daughter. She is beautiful, smart, funny, caring, and so athletic. She tends to be on the shy side and is timid with those she first meets. You have to prove your trust to her, she doesnt just trust any one. In fact I believe she has a good judge of character with people. Nice quality to have. She is definately my most obediant child and has such a sweetness about her that just makes me melt. She is a daddy's girl and has him wrapped around her finger. She loves being s big sister. I couldnt do it without her. She helps me so much with the girls when Mitch is gone. I hope I never take her forgranted. I love that she loves school. She helps her friends and always has a smile on her face. She is turning seven tomorrow. I can hardly stand it, by babes are all growing up before my eyes. One more year and she will be baptized and what a special day that will be for her and us. I was reading on one of my favorite blogs the other day and I couldnt help but think of my Aubs when reading it. Ree has a daughter who is having a birthday. I would like to share it with you...

"It’s strange. As her eleventh birthday approaches, I’ve noticed that I’m just not struck with that heart-tugging, bittersweet feeling that usually comes every time one of my other children turn a year older. I’m excited for her, of course, but I’m just not welling up with tears and wanting to cry because she’s growing up—the way I do whenever the other kids hit a birthday.

And I know why.

It’s because I know she’ll never leave me. I’ll never have to face the reality of her growing older, because I know she’ll be mine forever. Her growing a year older doesn’t mean the same thing that it means with my other three, who will one day go on about their lives—whether that means college or work or becoming teachers or Navy Seals or Broadway stars. No, unlike the other children, I know my younger girl—my little petunia—will stay with me forever.

She has to.

I wouldn’t be able to breathe without her.

Now, lest you think this intensity of a mother-daughter relationship is unhealthy, do not worry! When she turns eighteen, I will have absolutely no problem allowing her to spread her wings and fly. If she wants to go to college, I’ll be 100% behind her.

No, really. I’ll literally be behind her, following her with my suitcase, dragging my favorite pillow and comforter behind me and carrying my boom box. Waving and hollering, “Wait for Mama, sweetie! I’ll be right there! Save me the top bunk!”

If she ever leaves…I’m going with her.

And that’s why I’m not worried about her birthday

My sweet Quinny. I love you more than moon. You are my star.

Happy 7th Birthday Aubrie Quinn!
